We recorded each of the 10 keys of the kalimba, starting with G4, E5, D4, C5, A3, G3, A4, C4, D5, E4. To capture the best possible sound, we used an AKG C411pp contact microphone. This gave us a clean sound that is perfect for sound design and can be adjusted to the desired level of decibels.

It's a clean sounding kalimba, with just the right amount of brightness and top end transient. And pretty good key velocity dynamics too.This may actually become my go-to kalimba instrument. It's pretty dry, so you can add your own room, and the notes are tuned well enough to sound in tune, but still like a kalimba with character.
